Cheats!: Eurovision competition not fair says mother of losing singer
Nadezhda Sargsyan, the mother of contestant and popular singer Emmy, says she will file charges in court alleging that the vote result was falsified. Sargsyan claims that the names of several participants got blocked soon after a 15 minutes sms-voting started, which predetermined the outcome of the vote and as a result caused her daughters and other contestants to be robbed of their fans’ votes. Russian-Armenian singer Eva Rivas was named winner of the popularity contest, held at the National Academic State Theater of Opera and Ballet of Armenia, in Yerevan, claiming about 5,000 text-message votes. Meanwhile, duo Emmy and Mihran got only 1,400 sms messages, which, according to Sargsyan, is impossible. “These famous singers (meaning Emmy, Mihran, and Razmik Amyan, another participant of the contest) who usually have full concert halls have thousands of fans, and it is impossible that they have gotten so few votes,” Sargsyan says. The singer’s mother says she has proof that her daughter and other performers’ votes were not being recorded. The counting of the voting was monitored by Grant Thornton Amyot Audit Organization on behalf of Armenian Public Television and InterMob CJSC. ArmeniaNow has not managed to find the source of InterMob CJSC, as it is not registered at any juridical address, and as for the company’s website’s contact section, only the e-mail is mentioned there. “I do not know what to say; the feeling of indignation and injustice is terrible,” says Sargsyan.
