Golden Apricot: Eighth edition of international film festival opens in Armenia

A weeklong international film festival opened in Armenia on Sunday, with cinema-goers given another chance of sampling some of the latest movie offerings.

The eighth edition of Golden Apricot, a film festival held in Yerevan every year since 2004, opened on July 10 with a gala ceremony attended by several star guests, including one of the festival’s guests of honor Fanny Ardant, a renowned French actress.

One of this year’s novelties at the festival is “Apricot Pit”, a short film program offering young filmmakers a chance of expressing themselves and sharing their vision of the future of cinematography.

The film festival also highlight films created in former Soviet republics in a section dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The festival ends on July 17.
