Letter Home: A Diaspora discovers Armenia and “Armenianness”

My time in Armenia has run out, and as I sit in my home back in America, I find myself thinking about the extent to which my trip has affected me and about where Armenia will fit into my life after having come here, lived here, and worked here.

Though my time in Armenia was brief and really only gave me a glimpse into the social, political, and economic landscapes of the country, there was something about being there and seeing things firsthand that made it difficult to leave.

I am happy for you Elizabeth. The best way to feel Armenian again is to visit Armenia. It seems you got what you craved for during this trip. Because of our unique history, you will feel that you don't have to be physically in Armenia to feel connected to the fatherland, especially now that you already visited the country. You can stay in touch with your new friends in Armenia and keep reading news/articles about the fatherland and hopefully the atmosphere will be right some day for all of us to return... Although diasporans are somehow different then the local Armenians in many aspects, both need each other to stay afloat...
