Soccer: Focus on Ataturk stadium security ahead of Turkey-Armenia fixture

Incidents at a soccer game played over the weekend in a northwestern Turkish city have raised questions over the security of an upcoming international game planned in the same venue where the visitors will be Armenians.

On October 14, the Ataturk Stadium in Bursa, some 90 kilometers to the south of Istanbul, will host the FIFA World Cup 2010 Group 5 qualifier between the national soccer teams of Turkey and Armenia.

During this game I hope that turks will show their real face and act as they did when they were hosting the kurdish team. I hope serjik gets struck by one of those plastic seats and this might be the wake up call. Agents of foreign interests have no right to lead a country and this regime has time and time again shown that they are here to enrich themselves and allow the strangulation of a nation by foreign influence. Violence in this game will show the true colors of these so called peace loving turks, and it should be wake up call for all these naive individuals who think that turks have changed. These venue hopefully will get them caught in the act and this will give us the proper reason to halt all these crap protocol business and go back to status quo.

Manvel: If she wants to supprort her team, it is ok. But why 'Armenia-Turkey' on the banner? She could write Armenia on it. So she supports 2 teams at the same time? Is she a politician or a fan? You think during the return match many Turks will have banners with 'Turkey-Armenia' on it? Manvel: I can not believe what you said about the Genocide and the Western-Armenian territories. How naive some Armenians can be. I will say only this about it- go to www.ararat-center.org and read/listen about these issues. One more thing: If you can not help on Genocide and Western-Armenian territories, please, at least, SHUT UP you naive mouth. Du mi hat molorvats vochxar es, vor miayn utvel karogh a.

I don't think blowing this game out of proportion is required at this time. Garegin, the lady with the banner did not disrespect the Genocide Victims, she went to support her country and to welcome the Turkish team to Yerevan. Trust me I am as mad and disgusted at the Turks and their policies as much as any other patriotic Armenian. But as a civilized member of the world community Armenia and Armenians can not act immature when it comes to sports. As far as the protocols are concerned, I would like to see progress in our relations with Turkey. But at the same time if a surprise precondition or anything that will harm our National Pan Armenian interests come up, I would like us to pull out and declare to the world that we were lied to and manipulated. For 15 years we been crying .....closed borders, genocide, etc etc. I am tired of seeing the Armenian Diaspora and Armenia proper wasting our time and resources for recognition of the Genocide. IT HAPPENED....GOD REST THEIR SOULS.........The truth of the matter is we dont have the population to support more territories nor will Turkey in a million years give us our lands back. SO lets change our strategies and use our strengths and resources on Armenia and the future generations to make sure no GENOCIDE OF ARMENIANS ever happens AGAIN!!!!!!

123: do not say naive things. Go and listen about this at www.ararat-center.com. When you say such stuff I begin to believe that all those are right who say that the regime in Armenia has made people sleepy and ignorant scared sheep.

Armenia should not go, full stop. We don't need any embarrasment of that kind. Armenians needs neither carnations nor "Azeri Flags" during that match. It would be better to play on neutral ground, somewhere in Switzerland.

Isnt Switzerland one of the few neutral nations in the world that ussually takes an impartial position? Isnt Switzerland a progressive European nation that is well aware of our history?

What a shame that in the picture this naive woman has a banner with "Armenia-Turkey" on it. What a shame. I hope she understands that her act is a disrespect to Genocide victims and Armenia and Armenians in general. Or is she paid by Serge's gang to do that?

Switzerland is Turkey's stratigic partner, and , thus, Armenia's enimy. And Switzerland mediates between Armenia and Turkey? Does this make sense?

Armenian political elite has lost all self-respect. Even if the protocols are signed Armenian president should not go to Turkey! He can meet Turkish PM in third country Beside this I don’t like the idea to sign these anti-Armenian protocols in country like Switzerland, where Armenian community used a lot of resources to fight for the recognition of Armenian Genocide! Armenian better sign these protocols in Pakistan or Malaysia or even in Turkey itself!

I think the Armenian team must NOT go to the match, as a protest to the protocols and Turkey's hostile policies towards Armenia and for Genocide denial by Turkey.
