Soccer: Armenia solid in Spanish test before “fence-mending” game in Turkey

On Monday morning Armenia’s national soccer team left for Turkey where they will be involved in midweek action against the neighboring nation’s team that is likely to go beyond just the game of soccer.

On October 14, Turkey and Armenia will play in the northwestern city of Bursa, some 90 kilometers to the south of Istanbul, in a sporting event that will mark the completion of more than a year-long “soccer diplomacy” initiated by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in the middle of 2008 ahead of the two teams’ first-leg match in Yerevan

chess doesn't need resources, it needs smart people. But football needs resources (football fields, physical therapy, foreign camps....) and Turkey's resources cannot be compared to Armenia's. So its ok, let it be a fun and balanced game to watch...

I think they do not have to go to Turkey. It would be the biggest victory. But, of courese, sport has "nothing" to do with politics.

A win or even a tie in turkey will be a major symbolic victory. If we can be the best in chess, we should be able to turn some heads in soccer as well. I believe in our team as well.

For the first time in a long time I was proud of the Armenian NT, they played with heart and they gave the best team in the world a very hard test. I believe that if the Armenian NT continues in this directions with the young players that are playing the future of the NT will be very bright. I just hope they can grow and not revert back to the old habits. If they play the way they played against spain against turkey Armenia can beat turkey, although Turkey is one of the toughest places to play. But i hope at least they can get a tie out of the game and play as well as they did against Spain.
