Geopolitical Crossroad: Armenian-Turkish Relations on Middle Eastern Background

The signing of the Armenian-Turkish protocols on establishing bilateral diplomatic relations took place under principally new circumstances in the Middle East.

The situation is unusual because for the first time in the past hundred years Turkey is trying to present itself as a leading unit – and not so much in the Turkic, but rather Islamic world.

no land should be given to Azeris under such circumstances. Any position evacuated by NKR army will be used against them. AZR is not a European state that respects laws and mutual understandings...if anyone thinks that than they are day dreamers.... If any land is given they will ask for more, and once they get into strategic locations they will launch a war.... 2 months ago they wanted Zangezur....AZR cannot be trusted and that is a fact, not just a tactic used in negotiations... it would have been nice if all caucasus countries were civilized and respected each other, but that is not the case and until then, preparing for a new war is much more rational than thinking of any retreats because war looks inevitable and better be at strategic locations... Peace is great but preparing for war isn't a bad idea, and i feel that is what NKR army is doing...better be safe than sorry, history has so many lessons...

if in principle Turkey drops her opposition then the Armenian side will probably feel more comfortable making territorial changes. The Armenian side feels that giving up territory with no security will make Karabakh less easy to defend.

Turkey will not drop her opposition to Karabakh independence unless Ağdam,Fizuli,Kelbajar, Jebrail, which rightfully belongs to Azerbaijan is given back to Azerbaijan, then Azerbaijan will be satisfied to great extent, and Turkey will stop opposing. This will be the most fair solution to Karabakh conflict.

It's possible that a Turkey that is moderate Islamic / moderate Ottoman is better for Armenia than a Turkey that is nationalistic. It will be a big step forward if Turkey drops her opposition to Karabakh's right to independence

How can Turkey play a role in finding or mediating or brokering a solution to the regional problem...when Turkey is not only part of the problem...but actually is the creator of the problem.... Turkey needs to take a good look at its past and say: MEA CULPA

It is true that Armenian claim to western Armenia is hard to accomplish now, since there almost no Armenians left there. Karabakh is fully populated by Armenians, if you use rationality and fact -- the solution is self evident. Turkey may be generous in it's desire to find solutions for the region -- it's effectivness can be measured by how fast she learns facts. Armenians can be considered irrational, if one considers hitler, stalin, or ataturk rational. Irrational Armenia or Tukey is no benefit for anyone in the region, espcially for Turkey -- one that has much, has much to loose. At the end, a man will sleep in the bed that he makes.

Turkey needs to come clean to the Arab world that Attaturk was jewish and that there were a lot of promises made in exchange for keeping things hush hush.

It is not realistic to talk about a possibility of a coup by Turkish Armed Forces. Turkey is not turning her face from West to East, but her foreign policy gets more flexible, with her increasing power and influence in the region. Israel needs Turkey more than Turkey needs Israel, at least not more. And Turkey's foreign policy is to great extent encouraged by American and European policies, at least, it is not antagonistic. Turkish ruling elites know that the country needs more democratization for the economic development and to increase their power in the region, so it is almost impossible to stop the recent developments on Kurdish and Armenian issues. Also, Armenians should know that Turkey is more effective and powerful in the solution of regional problems such as Karabakh, but this does not mean that Turkey is a military treat to Armenia, and wont be. Also, Turkey's reaction to Armenian territorial claims on Eastern Turkey, does not come from a fear of course, it is a wonderful tool to show the world and Turkish public that Armenians are very radical, militant, irrational people.
