Conspiracy theory in Eurovision: Turkey claims genocide hint in Armenia's «Apricot stone»

Eva Rivas’s winning song to present Armenia at Eurovision 2010 this May in Oslo has raised a wave of protest in Turkey, which claims that Armenia’s song has “a political context hinting at the Armenian Genocide.”

I appreciate all my Armenian brothers and sisters' pains and sufferings. My family, too, had exiled from their homelands in those years. But I think, we should leave history to itself. We don't have to act like our grandparents. Love and Peace !

Riva's song does hint at something. The "motherland" refers without a doubt to Anatolia or West-Armenia. However, I do not think that reference is made to the genocide, since cold and heat is vague.

Even if this is true although there is not naming anything ...what bothers Turkey since they consider themselves not guilty..what still hunts them? That they find in every syntax's of words that come out of the Armenian mouth as reason to protest!!! ..."not guilty" ;-)maybe they should look over again they history and deal with it as Germany did with its own........Holocaust Genocide Massacres etc the real ones even if they don't mentioned the eternal facts are haunting ever the unjust deniers of the truth...poisoning even their moments of pleasure such of listening a euro vision song!!!

WOW Really? What else should we not talk/write/sing/film about, you know to not hurt the murderous conscious of our neighbor?! First of all Armenian history is full of pain and misery, thanks to our "great" neighbors. This song could have been written at any one time in the Armenian history and be relevant. Third, SO WHAT if it does talk about the Genocide (although I dont think it does). It does not mention it anywhere so Turkey can not politicize this enough to have it banned from the contest. Thats their main goal here, to get the song banned from the contest; good luck deniers. Fourth, why is a apparent Turkish denialist present at the Armenian national selection?! I hope he was just a spectator and not some kind of a guest.

They do not realize it, but with acts like these they are actually saying: Don't talk about the genocide so that we wont be disgraced in front of the whole world. Turkey's denial is nearing its logical end.

When someone has a guilty conscience they will become paranoid and assume circumstances are against them or out to get them for what they have done, even if it is not in the essence of the circumstances; this circumstance is a perfect example.

Genocide is a human rights issue; it concerns all humanity; it is not a political issue. The word genocide was coined by Jurist Raphael Lemkin (Polish-Jewish descent and Holocaust survivor) to first describe destruction and barbarity that befell the Armenians.

What a claim!!!! Thats funny because I did not even think of the genocide when I heard the song.

Oh yeah, sorry if he hinted to the Genocide in his song, i hope they accept his apologies. what are you talking about? It is part of our history, what can we do about it? you think we are so proud because 1.5 million Armenians died(or 500,000 as if it matters)?of course we're going to mention it, for sure there were millions of Armenians(even if only 100 people) living in what is now Eastern Turkey, everyone knows that, for sure it was a cruel history.... should we just forget what our grandparents told us about their childhood and how their families were killed and how they were collected by European/Americans and put into orphanages? what's next? our ancestors should come back and apologize for dying? or maybe never write songs about Armenians before 1915, after the Genocide everything starts new! this is history, there is no politics in it. It is only used in politics because Armenia is a small state compared to Turkey so Armenia has to find other means to get its rights and give justice to those who died. other foreign countries USE the fact to put pressure on Turkey, but that doesn't mean the Genocide is political... thats why Eva in her song is living far away from her motherland and all she has left is an "Apricot stone".

Turkey should thank Europe for being allowed to participate in european contests instead of complaining about nonsenses.
