yes, many ethnic Armenian food has Turkish, persian and Arabic names, like sare bourma...Armenians were a minority so probably some of the dishes were called differently by Turks and it kept the Turkish name due to its high use.... back then(1500s -1800s) nationalism wasn't high on the agenda and people shared food recipes, names... finding the origins and the 'owners' of such recipes is almost impossible, Greeks, Turks, Armenians, Arabs and Persians to some extent share very similar cuisine...maybe some recipes are archived somewhere...there is now a war between Israel and Lebanon on hummus, to see who can break the world record for the largest hummus dish....

Yes, we have all varieties here. The one with cheese is the Arab version. Greek version is a little bit different. Diyarbekir version is really good. It was prepared especially by Armenian "usta"s before 1915. Turkish public doesnt know how much Armenian people contributed to Turkish/Ottoman cuisine. Do you know that armenian food "Ghapama" is a Turkish word?

oh yeah, ghadayef. i live in the US but that did not prevent us from baking our own ghadayef. is this the one with the hair-like pastry with nuts in it? the Greeks call it Kadaef too and sell the raw material in boxes in the US. There is atayef in the Arab world, and thats completely different, it is a circular dough stuffed with a type of cheese (or sometimes walnuts) then usually folded in half and fried.

I just joked. There are very different varieties of halva here. I am sure, Armenians cooked best halva before 1915. There are even armenian surnames "helvacıyan". Do you have kadaif in Armenia?

Turco, do you know the recipe of the Turkish Halva? how is it different than the Armenian one? there are many versions out there, especially in the Arab world...

Turkish halva is best, of course, if it is cooked by Armenian hands :)
