40 տոկոսով գազի թանկացումը և այլ ապրանքների ու ծառայությունների գների սպասվելիք բարձրացումն առիթ տվեցին հնարավոր սոցիալական խռովության կանխատեսումների: Կառավարության սոցիալական և տնտեսական քաղաքականության խիստ քննադատությամբ հանդես եկավ Դաշնակցությունը, որի պատգամավորները, այդ թվում` տնտեսագետ Արա Նռանյանը, չբացառեցին երկրում սոցիալական պայթյունը:
