Heart Art: Yerevan policeman takes “conscience examination” to help disabled

Ara Harutiunyan defies the common public perception of the brusque, often rude and uncaring Armenian police officer.

When he goes to the Shogh (“ray of light”) Art Studio he is a short distance but a world away from the central Yerevan police precinct where he interviews crime victims, as a special investigator.

If I am not mistaken many policemen in Armenia have graduated from Pedagogical University and since work in police pays more than teaching, many opted for that. Why don't all policemen who are qualified as teachers do some teaching? and may be even get some benefit /compensation for it?

People like this man need to be honoured in Armenia. It does fill us with hope that there are decent and honest people in the police force. I never really doubted this, but sometimes it is hard to distinguish between them "carrying out orders" and actually being themselves.
