A martial arts bow: Armenian condolences on Azeri fighter’s death

In a rare display of a true athletic spirit, an Armenian sport official has offered his and his federation’s condolences on the death of a young sportsman from Azerbaijan.

In a telegram addressed to his Azerbaijani counterpart Ceyhun Mamedov, President of the Armenian Sambo Federation Levon Hayrapetyan said the federation of the sport in Armenia regretted the neighboring republic’s loss of a talented sambo fighter, who drowned in a lake over the weekend.

Sportsmanship to those who abide by it, sometimes it is frustrating to do the right thing with savages... This reminds me sometimes of the long convoys of thousands of Armenians lead to die by 3-4 guards, very well behaved Armenians trusting their 'country men'.... In the end who cares, survival counts and we have to stay focused on it.... There is too much hate building on their side, no matter how many concessions we make, even compromising the Genocide, yet they are eyeing Zangezur... This is not politics, this is reality, go ask his parents if they care to hear that, enough trying to do the 'right' thing, do it with those who deserve it ... I am glad Kharabakhtsis are on top of this or else they wouldn't have been free...

It's good to see such sportsmanship. This has nothing to do with Budapest. A fellow sportsman died and this was the right thing to do.

This is not politics. I think the Armenian Sambo Federation has done a good thing. You shoud not do somethig wrong or bed because someone did it to you. Proverb "Two wrongs does not make a right"

don't send condolences unless they want to hear it, and i doubt they want to... why bother, remember how an Azeri butchered an Armenian in Budapest in his sleep 7-8 years ago? this nation considered him a hero and not only 'official' Azerbayjan. did they send their condolences back then? i don't agree with being 'nice' to savages...
