Sweet 16?: Armenia celebrates another year as independent republic

Sixteen years ago today (September 21), Armenians overwhelming voted “yes” to set out on a republic of their own. Leaving the Soviet life behind, the Republic of Armenia became free and independent. For better or for worse.

Independence Day is a cause for reflection . . .

Aram Manukyan of the Armenian All-National Movement board sees independence as a house with several columns – those of institutes, foreign and domestic ties, democracy and human psychology.
