The Price of Progress: Early movement at top reaches bottom like a bullet in cost of democratization

This is not going to be easy for President Serzh Sargysan. He procured a presidency by manipulating citizens and events, and assumes it now against justified kicking and screaming by even those who might agree with his intentions but didn’t count, themselves, on being gouged by the price with which the “Forward Armenia” highway is paved.

Two dramatic decisions in the first 10 days of office demonstrate the complexity of being Men in Charge of a republic in crisis.

Great article! What is sad that Armenians outside don not have any real picture what is going on inside. Since LTP was president nothing changed. Mafia is growing and growing. New president covers dark affairs of previous. Deputies buy houses in West and live with their families outside coming sometimes to Armenia to vote for something they don't care. During last 20 years of "democracy" more than one million of Armenians left Armenia. I think everybody can count how many Armenians will leave in Armenia next 20 years, since only 1 mln. and 800 thousands left in Armenia. Let think real who really cares about Armenia! It is obvious that not current politicians or previous LTP...

John as usual, well done article with a ttwist of sarcasm. Although your years in Armenia are showing, your writings are beging to sound a bit more pesmistic and conspiritorial. Anyway, it is better to have one "Mafia" as is back home the good old USA, the "Goverment". Armenia needs to have one strong central "Mafia" instead of the many who are operating now. Reality bites.
