Feeling the World’s Pain: Armenia part of international trend in food costs

As reported worldwide in recent weeks, the United Nations and World Bank warn that a world food crisis is possible. The rise in prices for food and foodstuffs jeopardizes many countries’ stability and security.

The rise in food prices on the world markets unavoidably provokes inflation in small countries like Armenia. Prices for imported foodstuffs particularly grow here. According to Armenia’s National Statistical Service, in the course of three months, from December 2007 to March 2008, prices for foodstuffs grew by 7.2 percent.

Araik when serge sargsyan decides who will import sugar and who will sell wheat, ofcourse it will be his fault if prices increase, those oligarchs including your godfather sargsyan want to increase their profits/prices and pay little tax, did u get that or its hard to understand why there is inflation in Armenia?

On hearing this I'm sure organizations in the diaspora and the churches will take time off from planning their next banquet/keff party to open soup kitchens for the poor not to go hungry

Ani, Armenia technically can not experience a famine because we grow a big portion of our own food, as well as animals. On the other hand the very poor of the country might not be able to purchase higher priced foods and might get malnurished. Armenia should develop its own food supply and try to depend less on imported foods. This will pay off in the long run.

It's all Serzh Sargsyan's fault. Had Levon Petrostein been in power food would have been free, for the entire world...
