Talking Points: If coalition believe their own numbers, why concern themselves with Ter-Petrosyan?

I’m not good with numbers, so am liable to huge misunderstanding about percentages, etc.

That confession at hand, here’s my question:

If Levon Ter-Petrosyan got only 21.5 percent of the vote in the February 19 election, why does his cause deserve all the attention it has created and all the trouble it has stirred?

A couple of comments: - with all "respect" to the fraudulent techniques applied by the authorities, I do not think LTP actually won the majority vote. The observers seemed to have confirmed that immediately after the vote. What Serj is trying to do now is to appease the still very vocal (if not aggressive) and pretty large minority against him (also because of the external pressure). - LTP succeeded stirring up pretty sizeabe segment of Armenian society pointing out the obvious flaws in today's authorities conduct; he did polarize and radicalize the same society which years ago he succeeded in ripping off and disillusioning; what he didn't do now - is offering a clear alternative (as I am convinced himself and his entourage are the same corrupt by Soviet-era instincts crowd - jusst much more hungry than Serje's); he, once again, fooled and hurt the Armenian people. - we will not have clean democratic vote in Armenia (of course, unless somebody as popular as LTP in 1992 or Sahakashvili during 'rose revolution' appears on horizon, which I don't see any candidates for in the current Armenian political landscape - in other words, we do have "bad" and we do have "ugly", but I do not see any "good"-s) until we succeed in building a robust civil society; this is a painful and slow process (and taking into account the hostile environment I am not sure we have all this time); it could be sped up by more active participation of Diaspora in internal Armenian political life - had we have 10 Raffi-s/Heritage-s we'd be on a different development stage right now (not that I totally agree with everything Raffi says); in this process we might take two steps forward, just to take another step back again; - having said the above - all arithmetics from the pure Western democratic world doesn't really apply in Armenia (BTW, did you try to apply the same arithmetics to Russia? I am sure it'd paint you a picture completely different from what's going on on the ground); in no mature society LTP's polarizing slogans would have as much influence, in no mature society voters would agree to sell their votes, in no mature society a minority would be able to turn the country upside down in a matter of days;

The only thing that will save Armenia is the realization that vote fraud constitutes the heaviest possible crime - an attempt to seize power. Since 1996 every election was a fraud, therefore all the presidents have been not elected, but installed as a rtesult of a coup d'etat. Levon at least won his first election fairly, and left office two years after the 2nd, fraudulent election. Robert proclaimed himself winner in 1998, then in 2003, and then proclaimed Serzhik winner in 2008. that is hi committed coup d'etat three times! So, Levon deserves a 20 years term in jail, but Robert deserves a life sentence.

Robik couldnt even beat Stopik in the first round? And serge beat (LTP, Raffi, Stopik, Aram,etc) in the first round? This is the biggest fraud, since Bush claimed Florida (a cheap shot, considering Im a republican). The karabagh clan fears LTP because he has the ability to congregate and start a movement, whereas Stopik the weakest link who couldnt even avenge his fathers death, couldn't even start a movement if you gave him a solid platform. All the karabagh clan is doing is digging a dipper hole in their grave, as more and more people will one day get tired of them and export them back to karabagh. But the question is will karabagh want them back?

Speaking of numbers what about the 800,000 people during the protests? I think you forgot to mention that number. That number explains that the 20 or so % is not what it says it is. Talk about a cheap shot.

let us see what Levon is thinking about theses "NUMBERS". Quoting from his speech in the 2nd Congress: "Թեեւ Վահան Հովհաննիսյանը եւ ԱԽՔ-ը, ընդունելով հանդերձ ընտրությունների կեղծված լինելու իրողությունը, այնու ամենայնիվ միացան Սերժ Սարգսյանին, դա դեռեւս չի նշանակում, որ վեր ջինիս միացավ նաեւ նրանց ընտրազանգվածը։ Ընդհակառակը, դիտարկում ները ցույց են տալիս, որ Հովհաննիսյանի եւ մանավանդ ԱԽՔ-ի թեկնածու թյունը պաշտպանած քաղաքացիները, հիասթափված իրենց առաջնորդների անվայել պահվածքից, այսօր ավելի լարված են Սերժ Սարգսյանի դեմ, քան նույնիսկ ընտրությունների ժամանակ։ Իսկ եթե սրան գումարենք նաեւ այն, որ մարտի 1-ի արյունահեղությունից հետո Սերժ Սարգսյանն ատելի է դարձել անգամ իր ընտրազանգվածի մեծամասնության համար, ապա հասարա կու թյան 77 %-ը ներկայացնելու մասին իշխանությունների մոտ ձեւավորված պատկերացումը հօդս է ցնդում։"
