Obama for Armenia: Armenian Americans say Democratic ticket best for the homeland

A political action initiative by a coalition of Armenian Americans has drawn praise and thanks from front-running U.S. presidential candidate Barack Obama in a text that affirms the Armenian Genocide.

A letter signed by Obama addressed to Anthony Barsamian, a leading campaigner for Armenian Americans for Obama (www.armenianamericansforobama.com) expressed the Illinois senator’s appreciation and held hints that an Obama-Biden administration would be sympathetic to the Armenian cause of genocide recognition.

obamian lol. recognizing the genocide and making it an example of taboo so the future generations don't do it, is no help to the nation of Armenia and the survival of the Armenian people. US recognizing it, will not make Turkey give back any of the lands that were given to us in the Treaty of Sevres after the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire. Neither will it stop the emigration of Armenians out of Armenia, and the assimilation of the Armenian people in the Diasporas. This are the issues we should be thinking about as it has to do with the survival of our historic nation and people.

I am an Armenian. My grandmother escaped from the Turks in 1909 before the 1915 genocide. My grandfather was cut down by the Turks, and she escaped with her two children, my father and his sister. It took her four years travelling across Europe to reach the US. They came through Ellis Island. I can't believe that Armenians would vote for a man just because he recognizes the Genocide. No matter that he would literally gut the constitution and lead this nation away from what made it great. I've been through the great depression and WWII and am a Korean vet. Don't you see that Obama is an empty suit and will say or do anything to be elected? Armenia was the first Christian nation on earth, and now you're voting for a man who encourages abortion! He even voted against the saving of an aborted fetus that survived! Shame on you all for forgetting your great heritage. Armenia, for the sake of her Christian beliefs survived countless invasions and fought for her sovereignty, for centuries! there is so much more I want to say here, but time constrains me, and frankly what I want to say would take a book. against

I don't want to sound unpatriotic, but the genocide is sort of obsession with the armenian diaspora and in many cases it misleads from more actual and vital problems concerning Armenia and the diaspora.

This is a never-ending and self-sustaining cycle of groveling that will not move us one inch close to resolving the primary result of the Genocide - namely the eviction and exile of western Armenians from their historic homeland !!!! Reintegration of dispossed Armenians into an Armenian reality, namely the ROA, should be the overriding objective of these diasporan organizations!!! Those who perished in 1915, in my humble estimation, would rather see their descendants live and work as free citizens of an independent Armenian state, rather than consume all their time and effort in such an fruitless cause!!!! Armenians residing in the US contribute to the US economy and , by extension, assist Turkey and her military machine that now controls western Armenia. Neither Obama or any other 'enlightened' American President can change this fact of geo-political reality. I can understand the motivation of these groups and people but they are misguided in their mission.

barack obamian? that's pretty funny, but don't get too excited as much as obama wants to recognize the genocide it is not solely dependent on him. he wants to bring some troops back, how is he gonna do that without the support of turkey? The democrats supported the genocide resolution in 07, because they wanted to hurt the republicans. Sorry to break it to you, but it wasn't because they love us so much.

We've heard similar statements before from other candidates, but the Obama and Biden seem to be more realistic, atleast for now. Let's hope the Turkish denial machines doesn't push them in a corner. I can see idiots like Glen Beck and Bill Maher stressing these guys on the issue on National TV. Only if they read a few books and understood why recognizing such events provides security to everyone, not just Armenians. We keep hearing about the Jewish Holocaust and hollywood launches atleast one blockbuster a year on the topic, while other holocausts are ignored and forgotten. We can't let the word used in a monopoly with one beneficiary. It's time to end the cycle of genocide, so I'll vote for Obama and hope he doesn't change his mind after empty treats from Turkey, like many before him.
