Days of Expectation: Armenian-American leadership met Obama policy advisors prior to president’s departure for Turkey

Advocates for recognition by the United States of the Armenian Genocide turn attention to Ankara, Turkey in the coming days when President Barack Obama meets Turkish President Abdullah Gul April 5.

Hopes that Obama will lead his administration to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide have run strong, strengthened by repeated statements of support the president has made during (and before) his campaign which was backed by Armenian Americans.

It is shameful that Obama, a member of an oppressed group himself, a man who holds himself as principled, who campaigned with explicit promises to recognize the genocide of Armenians, whose campaign slogan was Change We Can Believe In, who quoted MLK about the need to right wrongs, went before the world and showed that politics trumps the truth. Obama, what will you say on 24 April....where is the audacity of hope?

I am disappointed about the weak language used and reaction of AAA regarding President Obama´s speech in Ankara! If US are really interested to promote Turkish/Armenian reconciliation in this case US Administration has JUST one more reason to recognize the genocide of Armenian people. The recognition of Armenian Genocide by White House would force Turkey to not put any pre-conditions for talks with Armenian and try in this way to sabotage negations and use delay and propaganda tactics to gain time… Politicians and Azeri NGO´s are making a lot of noise in the Turkish-Azeri media. Turkey is not serious about negotiation with Armenia, normalisation of relation and opening of border. Turkey is in need of aggressive statements and rude reactions from Azeri-side. Due to Turk-Azeri orchestrated reactions coming from Azerbaijani, Turkey is able to demonstrated and MISLEAD US Administration and EU. Baku and Ankara are trying world community make believe, Turkey is taking the negations with Armenian very seriously - which is not the case! So called secret negation started almost in September 2007! Which are the results so far? We heard once again the opinion and strong message of Gul and Erdogan and there pre-conditions last week! How long is Armenia willing to play this game with? To remind people: -In 2007 Turkey was able to block H. Res 106 -To get the permission to bomb PKK -Keep the border closed and continuing blackmailing Armenia and re-writting the history of Armenian Genocide -And in the same time Turkey show her disappointment, disrespect to Israel and Bush Administration and USA at home!

When will we naive Armenians start to realize that there are no real differences between the Republican and Democrat party in the US? Simply put, they are two factions of the same political establishment. Democracy is a two ringed circus in America. As long as the American people enjoyed had a comfortable lifestyle (due to a century of global plunder), they turned a blind eye to the game. Armenia/Armenians should forget the US and all its little political tools such as ArmeniaNow and Radio Liberty, and concentrate on building stronger bridges with Iran, EU and Russia.

For almost a century Armenians have heard, "Now is not a good time . . . " and I expect we will hear it once again. The issue is not complicated . . . but simple. Does the United States of America honour their own history? Will the United States of America finally speak Truth to Justice? My four grandparents were granted citizenship in the United States of America BECAUSE this country recognized the Genocide that happened there. All four of my grandparents were orphaned. Now they are gone. And soon those of us who heard their stories will be gone as well. This is what Turkey must wait for. They are waiting for ALL witnesses to be gone and then the act of Genocide is complete. It is a work in study for those who would spawn Genocide in the future and we have an obligation to see that THIS one does not succeed.

Today, the denial of Armenian Genocide in US Congress is being orchestrated and coordinated perfectly by Congressman R. Wexler &Co – what ever Rep. R. Wexler is not welling to say – for different reasons- he delegates the dirty job to just another “Congressman” or “Congresswoman”, well chosen a so called "nativeAmerican Reps) … Armenian Americans and Diaspora should not allow Armenian Genocide to be abused by Congressman like R. Wexler or organization like AJC “as an article of commerce”! If US administration or US Congress are going once again to refuse officially to recognize Armenian Genocide. Armenian Diaspora and into certain extend Armenia should look for other legal ways to bring justice to this crime. This could be legal international court verdicts or open questioning of “Lausanne Treaty” - Turkey has to understand that a genocide never becomes prescribe/time-barred , even if Turkish lies are going to be sanctioned by G, Israel and most of all by US Administration just for another 100 years!
