AAA: Support continues to build for U.S. affirmation of Genocide

As reported by the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly), H. Res. 252, the Armenian Genocide Resolution, has crossed a threshold with the bi-partisan support of 100 cosponsors.

“Reaffirmation of the Armenian Genocide took another step forward today,” stated Assembly Executive Director Bryan Ardouny.

“As we mark Genocide Prevention Month throughout April and the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on April 24, support continues to build for unequivocal U.S. affirmation. By affirming the Armenian Genocide, we further the cause of genocide prevention,” added Ardouny.

Opening of border with Turkey and our struggle for the international recognition of Armenian Genocide and justice inclusive compensation shouldn’t contradict each other. Diaspora has just to be flexible enough to adjust its strategy to the new emerging realities, the sooner the better. Officials from soviet Armenian who did visiting western countries, were not allow speaking about genocide and in many case, they had to ignore the fact of Armenian genocide, while visiting Armenian communities. But all this didn’t stop Diaspora to fight for the recognition of Armenian Genocide! ! Many countries did recognize Armenian Genocide still during Soviet Armenia! Let’s be honest: Republic of Armenia - there authorities, the corrupt ruling elites - were never a real help in our struggle for recognition of the Turkish crime against humanity and justice! Diaspora never counted on the help of “authorities in Armenia” … Turkey is any way not honest in her approach toward Armenia and Armenians. else Turkey wouldn´t try to divide Armenia and Armenian Diaspora .... I am for open border and international recognition of Armenian Genocide including compensation

It is astonishing to read that President Obama did not use the word genocide" to describe the Armenian experience 1915-23, when the word “genocide” was coined by Dr. Raphael Lemkin to specifically describe the barbarity that befell the Armenians at the hands of the Turks. Dr. Raphael Lemkin, a lawyer of Polish-Jewish descent and a holocaust survivor, coined the word “genocide” to properly characterize the slaughter of the Armenians, explaining that the Turks acted with intent to annihilate. Prior to the use of the word "genocide", British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and other world leaders described the events as the "Armenian holocaust." President Obama who does not speak Armenian, used the Armenian words "Medz Yeghern" (The great catastrophe) thus shielding Turkey of any legal accountability for its crimes under UN and international laws for the prevention and punishment of the crimes of genocide. Imagine if back in the days of West Germany the US president refrained from using the word "Holocaust" not wanting to offend or sour relations with a strategic NATO ally, thus describing the events of WWII as "Shoha".

Dear AL, US presidents do not make policy, they simply represent those who do. Think of US presidents as CEOs of a big firm. And if you think there are free and fair elections in the US you might as well also believe in the Tooth Fairy. The US Empire has been an entity with one political party (the financial/political elite) separated into two factions (Democrat/Republican).

During his campaign for The Presidency, Obama repeatedly promised to recognize The Armenian Genocide. He got the votes. He lied. This man is devoid of moral authority.
