Election cleanup: Asphalting, tree pruning, garbage removal help spruce up Yerevan ahead of municipal vote

This year residents of Yerevan notice with surprise that during the pre-election period the city becomes cleaner and ‘greener’ day by day. Many believe the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) is thus trying to raise its rating and the rating of its top candidate on the ticket, who is the incumbent mayor, ahead of the May 31 municipal assembly elections. Some opposition media speculate that even though the current greenery planting and city infrastructure improvement works are being carried out at the expense of budget resources, they still have pre-election purposes.

Gurgen, Take your pretty flowers planted by the regime and start a hot-house somewhere. Bribes come in many forms and you seem to be one who likes to "take".

They should hold elections every month, seems like this is the only way people get what they want from the government. By the way, don't expect anything new if LTP and his pals somehow get the power. They've already proven that they're not any better.

The difference between "window dressing" and what has happened during this election period in Yerevan is significant. It can be said that in Yerevan, there is no window - only the dressing. But no amount of tree planting can hide the extortion and bullying that city officials routinely foist upon the citizens of Yerevan. No amount of asphalt can cover up the naked greed of these "western style" governors. ArmeniaNow's take an this story is not funny at all to those of us who live in Yerevan. It is a tragic reality.

Yeah well, the city residents should realize that "window dressing" is what western style democracy is all about. At the very least officials are concerning themselves with the betterment of the city. And its funny how Armenianow can take a positive story like this and somehow turn it anti-government...
