A step forward: International observers say Yerevan election up to European standards

A small group of international observers have given mostly positive assessments to the Sunday elections to the Yerevan City Council, saying they have mainly corresponded to European standards.

Fifteen observers from the Council of Europe (CoE) Congress of Local and Regional Authorities who monitored the vote on May 31 said: “There were shortcomings, which probably affected the results, but not the legitimacy of the elections.”

How can 15 international observers make such outlandish and absolute claims? Free and fair? Give me a break. And these are the same Europeans that want us to compromise when it comes to Karabakh and Armenian-Turkish relations...

@Hayq The only way the Armenian Diaspora will ever have a say in Armenia is if they move to Armenia, become, citizens, start businesses, pay taxes own property and have a voice. How can you possibly change anything from 1000's of miles away. If my family can do it, so can everyone else!!

Agree with the rest of the comments. Only way Armenia may become democratic is when Raffi Hovhannisyan is elected president. ArmeniaNow, make an appeal to the Armenian Diaspora to support the resignment of Sargsyan and to help Hovhannisyan to become president. That way the Diaspora would do 100 times more for Armenia, than to just hold demonstrations for Genocide recognition.

How can anyone take what these "observers" say seriously? And the winner is, Al Gore!!! 10 minutes later. Sorry, we made a mistake, George Bush is the next President of the United States!! EU or American, same story.

“There were shortcomings, which probably affected the results, but not the legitimacy of the elections.” This is quality "double-speak" - George Orwell would be pleased. Dear EU observers: I hope you can give us more gems like these in your full report. Something along the lines of: the elections were deeply flawed, but we recognize their ultimate legitimacy.
