Election Day, 1 p.m. Mid-day Reports Challenge “Free and Fair”: Illegalities claimed republic-wide• Reporting from the town of Abovian, Social-Democratic Hunchakian Party chairwoman Lyudmila Sargsyan told ArmeniaNow that two proxies for opposition candidate Levon Ter Petrosyan were put in cars, driven to the outskirts of town, and released. • A Ter-Petrosyan proxy, Larisa Torosyan, was reportedly beaten, and threats made against her children. “When we reached the polling station, the chairman of the commission said he was unaware of anything, did not see anything,” Sargsyan, who is also a Ter-Petrosyan proxy said. She also said that “several thick-necked people approached us, who are bodyguards of (MP) Gagik Tsarukyan, but who are registered as observers to control the situation.” Sargsyan, who leads the oldest Armenian political party, said that “the whole situation created in Abovian” has caused an atmosphere in which no valid vote can take place. • At Precinct 38/13 in Kapan officials were informed that some soldiers were seen voting more than once. • The head of the Gyumri Aspares press club Levon Barseghyan confirms that 5,000 drams (about $16) are being given to voters near School N11, on the pavement across from a kindergarten in Vasil Khachatryn street and City Hall on Shirakatsi street. The journalist says supporters of Serzh Sargsyan come in cars, and hand out money to names on a list of signatures. • Near Polling Station 8/8 in Yerevan the nephew of Republican Party of Armenia member Samvel “Lfik Samo” Alexanyan was seen distributing money in exchange for promises to vote for Serzh Sargsyan.
