Election Day, 9 p.m. Not Guilty/Guilty: Police say allegations against RPA are invalid, but LTP people at fault

Ballot boxes in Abovian and across Armenia have been opened as the count begins.

In a televised press conference this evening, Republic of Armenia Police spokesperson Sayat Shirinyan announced that his department has looked into allegations of wrongdoing by ruling Republican Party of Armenia and found no grounds for investigation.

Cases of violence reportedly perpetrated by Levon Ter-Petrosyan supporters, however, have been looked at and grounds found for investigation.

The police report came as the local election commissions began the task of counting votes in an election that saw a turnout of 69.25 percent of 2.3 million voters amid numerous reports of voting fraud and poling station violence.

While votes are being counted, at least two research agencies announced exit poll results that, themselves, appear conducted according to party affiliation – one claiming 57 percent of votes for Serzh Sargsyan and the other claiming 54 percent for Ter-Petrosyan.
