Who Determines Armenia-Turkey Preconditions?: True nature of “historic” signing seen in Hillary’s persistence

While the western media is reacting to the signing of protocols Saturday as if 100 years of Turkish-Armenian animosity has been whitewashed by however much ink is required to sign foreign ministers' names, statements by Turkey’s Prime Minister reveal a different and perhaps more accurate picture that demands prudent examination before Armenia’s parliament signs off on the documents.

Just a day after Armenia’s Foreign Minister did as he was told (by Hillary Clinton and others) to put pen to paper, Turkey's Prime Minister Recyip Erdogan says Armenia must withdraw from the occupied territories bordering Nagorno-Karabakh.

According to news reports Erdogan says Turkey cannot take a "positive step" toward opening the joint border with Armenia until Armenian troops give up ground they overtook in the battle to secure a perimeter for Karabakh.

Interesting protocol ceremony. The body language told a lot. First of all, the banner is in English for the Turkish and Armenian signatories. Interesting! Mrs. Clinton,as to what I can see, never got close to Armenia's foreign minister. And if you watch the video, you can't help but notice Mrs Clinton glaring down on Nalbandyan's penmanship. Amot eh!

Anyone who thinks that Hillary had nothing to do with the Turks trying to pull a last minute Karabagh play on Serge is a total fool!! It is amazing how everyone is portraying Hillary as the savior of this deal. I lived in America too long not to notice American chivalry and its kniving undertones. This was a Russian deal from the start: Russia is Turkeys #1 trading partner. Russia gets to stick it Georgia. Russia has, is and always will remain the security guarantor of Armenia. Russia has pumped billions in to Armenia and will continue to so (NUCLEAR POWER PLANT). Prediction: Turkey acknowledges the Genocide within 1-5 years. Agdam, Fizuli and Zangelan are given back to Azerbaijan. Karabagh, Kelbajar and Lachin are integrated in to a "Greater Armenia". As I have always stated, the main fear is Armenia's trade/Budget Deficit. How is Armenia going to offset the current and future deficits incurred from massive importing with zero export capability to balance its budget?

It is a good editorial. The parliaments in Turkey and Armenia must still approve and this is far from certain. Diaspora organizations have not helped Armenia much economically to now politically influence public opinion inside the country It is right that Diaspora should keep the issue of genocide recognition alive. But for most of the time Diaspora organizations have shouted slogans and but have not risen to the challenge since Armenia became independent

JH all those years have proved a metamorphosis. The latest tactic is like trying to train a golden retriever. Offer a hungry animal some bacon and bits if it will bark 3 times. If it only barks 2 times pull the food away. Do it too many times and the poor animal might just bite you in the fanny. Is it the dog's fault?

Cilician The term in the editorial is "Diaspora organizations", not Diaspora. That's where we "come off". Thanks for reading.

OK, the papers were signed and now ignore the whole thing and go back to business as usual. The turks will not change until they are forced to admit to the facts of the Genocide and own up to their crimes. Until this happens (the Genocide problems solved) Armenia should not ratify anything, agree to anything or continue neotiations for an Artzakh deal. Done!!!

Very impressive editorial. First, you haven't said a thing that we are (at least moi) not aware of.Second, where do you come off with the idea that Diasporans supported ,Serj 'VASAG' Sarkissians courageous? battle? AGBU,does not represent Diaspora. The Russians can overun the Americans' overland passages anytime they wish. The protocol can be 'BE FLUSHED IN TOILET' by future Armenian government as Turkey did in 1945 by refusing the return of the Armenian Teritorries.Bottom line. Protocol means ZILCH.

Very simple solution to this. Sarkisyan and the Armenian government must demand that Turkey withdraw from Cyprus immediately, or give Armenia 40 years more to decide on Karabagh. Time to fight fire with fire.
