105 Years of Memory: Armenian-Turkish relations through the eyes of Genocide survivor

In honor of Genocide Remembrance Day, ArmeniaNow presents this profile of a Genocide survivor, which previously was published here.

Mari Vardanyan, 105-years-old, spends most of her time sitting cross-legged on the sofa. A radio and a Bible are lying next to her. She has special earphones, with the help of which she follows the news of Radio Liberty every day.

This is fascinating, not only her story but a possible personal connection. My ancestors who escaped Malatia to America settled in Philadelphia, where my ancestor worked as a butcher to the MAZMANIAN family of Malatia. I do not know much about them, but one was named Stepan Mazmanian (1895-1968) and he ahd a few sons. This makes him about 10 years older than Ms. Mazmanian, I doubt she remembers him if she knew him but it is possible she knew of him. I wonder if the ArmeniaNow team is in contact with her family they can see if she is aware of any relatives who moved to Philadelphia, USA. That they have the same last name from the village town is often said to indicate a relation. Please contact me if you discover anything because this is very interesting! Vartan84 @ gmail.com

Thank you Gayane Mikrtchyan for a wonderful report on the Armenian Turkish protocols through the eyes of the Genocide survivor Mrs. Mari Vardanyan. Mrs. Vardanyan spoke from experience, historical knowledge, and wisdom - She believes in Armenia - qualities that the present inexperienced Armenian administration lacks. Just one additional comment, Radio Liberty was founded by the Central Intelligence Agency and expresses the views of the US State Department (the same organization that tried to fool Armenians with TARC Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Committee few years ago, and recently repackaged as the Protocols) They often hold hostile positions on Armenia and use subversive language and strategic misrepresentation in their broadcasts.
