Moment of Truth?: Are normalized relations approaching or merely speculation of the moment?

Yesterday when Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian apparently cancelled his trip to Turkey where he was to attend the Alliance of Civilizations forum, speculation surfaced that it indicated a breakdown in recent Armenia-Turkey dialogue on normalizing relations.

It turned out, however, that the foreign minister rescheduled his trip for today (Monday) and should be in Turkey as of this posting.

Earlier, on April 2, Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced unexpectedly that the Turkish-Armenian border will not be deployed until the Karabakh conflict has been settled.

it is funny that turks are discussing return of 5 regions to azerbaijan also lajin and kelbajar, why don't we discuss with them as well return of western armenia, why don't they start retreating from occupied cyprus first? i am appalled by the weak and shaky reaction of armenian goernment...they should be as brave as the people who fought for karapagh and liberated it from azeri tyranny

I hope Nalbandian is not as stupid as he sounds, he is acctually believing what the turks are saying. When the negotiations are based on lies then what part do you believe? As for any land to be given back, it is western Armenia.

I am disappointed about the weak language used and reaction of AAA regarding President Obama´s speech in Ankara! If US are really interested to promote Turkish/Armenian reconciliation in this case US Administration has JUST one more reason to recognize the genocide of Armenian people. The recognition of Armenian Genocide by White House would force Turkey to not put any pre-conditions for talks with Armenian and try in this way to sabotage negations and use delay and propaganda tactics to gain time… Politicians and Azeri NGO´s are making a lot of noise in the Turkish-Azeri media. Turkey is not serious about negotiation with Armenia, normalisation of relation and opening of border. Turkey is in need of aggressive statements and rude reactions from Azeri-side. Due to Turk-Azeri orchestrated reactions coming from Azerbaijani, Turkey is able to demonstrated and MISLEAD US Administration and EU. Baku and Ankara are trying world community make believe, Turkey is taking the negations with Armenian very seriously - which is not the case! So called secret negation started almost in September 2007! Which are the results so far? We heard once again the opinion and strong message of Gul and Erdogan and there pre-conditions last week! How long is Armenia willing to play this game with? To remind people: -In 2007 Turkey was able to block H. Res 106 -To get the permission to bomb PKK -Keep the border closed and continuing blackmailing Armenia -And in the same time Turkey show her disappointment, disrespect to Israel and Bush Administration and USA at home!

When will we naive Armenians start to realize that there are no real differences between the Republican and Democrat party in the US? Simply put, they are two factions of the same political establishment. Democracy is a two ringed circus in America. As long as the American people enjoyed had a comfortable lifestyle (due to a century of global plunder), they turned a blind eye to the game. Armenia/Armenians should forget the US and all its little political tools such as ArmeniaNow and Radio Liberty, and concentrate on building stronger bridges with Iran, EU and Russia.

Turkish propaganda machinery is working intensively and there is a lot of misinformation in the news media…. 1- Every day we hear in the news media a new date for the opening of Turkish- Armenian border. Who is “producing” this new dates? Armenian news media better stop every day to announce a new “date" for the opening of Armenia/Turkish border. 2- Armenian officials better avoid unnecessary footnoting meetings with Turkish Officials. Turkish is after all looking for merely propaganda material. Turkish is playing just the usuall dirty games as it was almost in every April month!

Sure . . . give up Karabakh when the Turks return Armenian land in Eastern Turkey . . . including private property which should be returned to those families or compensated. But it is always a one way street for Turkey. Talk about corruption.
