Reconsidered: Karapet Rubinyan apologizes for remarks about ANC

A week after a well-reported split from his party, noted oppositionist Karapet Rubinyan has come out with an apology, taking back accusations he made that the party of first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan had rigged elections in its recent congress.

Rubinyan (who is co-founder of the Committee for the Protection of Political Prisoners and Persecuted in Armenia) posted a retraction on Facebook social network, saying he has later learned that misgivings about the election were due to organizational shortcomings.

Rubinyan had expresses particular irritation toward Ter-Petrosyan, saying that instead of speaking about further plans, the opposition leader spoke about the senseless nature of the struggle for the domestic issues, saying that first of all it is necessary to resolve Armenian-Turkish differences, and the Nagorno-Karabakh issue, and only then take care of domestic issues.

His latest statement does not recant Rubinyan’s resignation from his party, but says he will continue as an oppositionist according to his conscience.
“If ANC continues struggling against the gangsters’ state, if it demands lawfulness, special elections, then I will support the struggle by any means. But if I notice that the fight has limitations, I will do nothing,” Rubinyan told ArmeniaNow.
