On Tuesday (February 16) President of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan met OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Secretary of State and Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Kanat Saudabayev and asked that NKR be included in debate over a peace settlement with Azerbaijan.

“First of all, while meeting the chairman-in-office, we raised the issue that all the documents, both the Madrid (principles) document, and its new amended version, drafted without the participation of Nagorno-Karabakh, cannot have a final place in the negotiation process. We urged them to visit Nagorno-Karabakh during their regional visit, too, in order to find out the position of the main country (of the conflict),” Sahakyan stated after the meeting.

Sahakyan also suggested inserting a new trend in the negotiation process, transferring the issue from the territorial entity to the platform of international legal discussion.

The second theme of their discussion was the Armenian-Turkish relations and their impact on the security of Nagorno-Karabakh. Sahakyan is sure that the improvement of the Armenian-Turkish relations does not have any connection with the security of Nagorno-Karabakh, and that the statements made by Turkey are not long-term.

“As for the statements made by Azerbaijan on renewing war, I believe this is a new type of terrorism; and after the meeting with Saudabayev, I think that they (OSCE) will take measures to suppress Azerbaijan,” Sahakyan says.
