The tensions on Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijan line of contact do not seem to be abating.
Two Azeri soldiers are reported dead in the latest of several recent skirmishes along the Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijan line of contact.
Armenian sources say the September 4 fight near Jraberd village was provoked by the Azeris, while Azeri sources say the opposite. In either case it appears that at least two Azersi are dead and at least one wounded.
The NKR Ministry of Defense press office says that, while fleeing “members of the sabotage group” hit a landmine and were wounded. Azeri sources say that one died from his wounds, while the body of another was left at the scene.
The fighting came a day after Russian President Dimitry Medvedev’s visit to Baku and four days after several soldiers were killed or wounded in another major ceasefire violation. During his September 1-2 visit to Baku Medvedev urged a peaceful settlement of the 22-year conflict which has been under cease-fire since 1994.
Today (September 6) OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmen left for Baku, after which they will travel to Stepanakert, NKR, and then to Yerevan.
