Coverage of Consequence: Top American TV news magazine to present segment on Armenian Genocide

The most respected investigative news television program in the United States plans a segment on the Armenian Genocide.

“60 Minutes” – known for decades for its reportage and occasionally controversial programming – will include a segment on the Genocide entitled “Battle Over History” during its weekly broadcast on the CBS network, Sunday at 7 p.m. EST (4 a.m. Monday in Yerevan). The popular news presentation has an audience of some 14.3 million viewers.

The program – typically including three segments of 20 minutes each – is to feature best-selling author and Armenian Genocide scholar Peter Balakian (author of popular books “Black Dog of Fate” and “The “Burning Tigress” and board member of the Armenian National Institute). The airing of the program comes just four days before the March 4 vote of a US Congressional committee on House Resolution 252, a document calling for the United States to officially recognize the Genocide.
