Speaker of the Armenian parliament Hovik Abrahamyan has sent a letter to Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi in which he expresses gratitude for the passage through the House Foreign Affairs Committee last week of Resolution 252 calling for the affirmation of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

In his letter, Abrahamyan, in particular said: “Armenia was closely and excitedly following the discussion on the Armenian Genocide resolution in the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. We are satisfied with the vote results. The March 4 voting was not only tribute to Armenian people, but a just response to the crime against humanity committed at the beginning of last century...

“On behalf of the National Assembly and myself, I express gratitude to you and all those congressmen who showed their assistance in adopting the resolution in the Committee.

“This is the beginning of a lasting process. I hope not far off is the day when the House of Representatives will pass the resolution. It is also worth mentioning that far from impeding the normalization of Armenia-Turkey relations, the affirmation of historical injustice will become a major step towards both nations’ reconciliation.

“Using this occasion, I would like to wish you all the best and happiness and wellbeing to the friendly people of the United States.”
