The Prosperous Armenia Party on Monday has confirmed the resignation of Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mkhitar Mnatsakanyan.
A spokesman told media that Mnatsakanyan had accomplished “all short-term tasks set to him” after he assumed office “under the instruction of [Prosperous Armenia leader] Gagik Tsarukyan” last year.
No reasons have been given for the resignation yet. Prosperous Armenia is expected to discuss a new candidate for the post, which is part of its ministerial portfolio in the current cabinet, after the resignation is accepted by the president.
Mnatsakanyan had been a member of parliament elected on a Prosperous Armenia Party list. Last November he was appointed Minister of Labor and Social Affairs after Gevorg Petrosyan resigned from office under controversial circumstances. Petrosyan said he resigned for health reasons, while the party maintained that he had not performed up to expectation.
