President Sargsyan (right) hosted Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan hosted Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the newly elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Thursday.
Greeting the Turkish guest, the Armenian President voiced hope that the visit of the delegation headed by the PACE President will help them get acquainted and make a more objective opinion about the challenges existing in Armenia and the region.
“The visit will also give us an opportunity to discuss agenda issues, and I am sure it will contribute to further deepening of cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe, particularly between the PACE and the National Assembly of Armenia. We want and are ready to intensify relations and cooperation,” President Sargsyan said.
Çavuşoğlu’s visit to Armenia has been met with criticism and boycott by several political parties, which criticized the European official of Turkish origin for his refusal to honor the 1915 Armenian Genocide victims at a Yerevan memorial.
