A key lawmaker of the ruling-coalition Prosperous Armenia Party has laid down the gauntlet for transparency in the May parliamentary elections.
“Elections must meet all the international criteria, otherwise it would be a real catastrophe for Armenia,” MP Naira Zohrabyan said on Monday, as reported by News.am.
Zohrabyan was reflecting on her party’s meeting with Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Co-Rapporteur on Armenia John Prescott who is in Yerevan for a two-day visit to discuss the upcoming vote.
Zohrabyan said PAP did not agree with all of Prescott’s viewpoints, but concluded that one matter is clear: “The most serious challenge for the state is holding transparent elections. We have already exhausted the reference of being a young democratic state.”
