Vote 2012: Election body publishes final results
Armenia’s Central Election Commission has published the final results of the May 6 parliamentary elections, showing five parties and one bloc entering the nation’s National Assembly.

The final tabulation shows a convincing victory for the ruling Republican Party that gets 44.02 percent (or 664,440 votes), followed by the Prosperous Armenia Party with 30.12 percent (or 454,673 votes) and the opposition Armenian National Congress bloc – 7.08 percent (106,903 votes).

The Central Election Commission (CEC) says some 62 percent of about 2.5 million eligible voters in Armenia went to the polls on Sunday to elect the nation’s next National Assembly.

In absolute figures, CEC Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan said the turnout after the closure of 12-hour polls at 8 pm stood at 1,559,627. (In Yerevan, more than around 485,000 people went to the polls, or close to 60 percent of the city’s voting age population.)
