Armenia’s longtime soccer champion FC Pyunik (Yerevan) won another national title beating Gyumri’s Shirak 3-1 on the penultimate day of the championship on Sunday.
Pyunik’s chaser Mika achieved a late 2-1 victory against Kilikia in Round 27 and settled for the runner-up’s spot.
Regardless of the outcome of the last round encounter against Mika, Pyunik, now holding an unassailable four-point lead, will formalize their ninth consecutive league title (and twelfth overall) on November 7.
On Sunday, meanwhile, Ulis achieved a 3-2 victory over their rival in the contest for the third spot, Banants, and thus secured the “bronze” position.
And last season’s runner-up Ararat, which had already lost all chances for avoiding relegation, beat middle-league dweller Gandzasar (Kapan) 3-2.
Regardless of the outcomes of all Round 28 matches, Banants, Gandzasar, Shirak and Kilikia will finish, correspondingly, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh in the eight-team league.
