A young Armenian couple from Russia came to Armenia to get married, in part due to the “Wedding in Homeland” program of the Ministry of Diaspora.

Yesterday (January 12), Siranush Abrahamyan and Saro Danoyan, each 20, became wife and husband at St. Sarkis Church in Yerevan, and then got the blessing of Minister of Diaspora of Armenia Hranush Hakobyan.

“I am very happy that marriage in the homeland becomes traditional among youngsters in Diaspora. This is the second couple that has visited me after the ceremony in the church to get my blessing,” Minister Hakobyan says.

‘Wedding in the Homeland’ program started last summer, with the first couple participating from Canada.

The minister bid the newly-weds to keep their mother tongue and Armenian traditions, far from Armenia and to pass them to their children. She also wished the new family to have at least three children, and that the head of the new family (Saro Danoyan) to study the Armenian language. Hakobyan gave the newly-weds a wedding present – a clock.

The bride and groom are students of the Faculty of Economics at Perm University (Russia). Their wedding took place on January 12. The newly-weds are planning to live in Perm, where they will register their marriage.
