Yerevan Water Company says water supply will be restored when repairs are over

Mainline water supply repairs currently underway have some Yerevan center residents recalling the early 1990s, as once again residents are seen carrying buckets of water from drinking fountains for home use.

Water supply is regularly cut in the center community at Parpetsi, Pushkin and adjacent streets, while valves are being installed in the area to regulate flow and reduce waste, according to Yerevan Water Company secretary general Mane Mamyan.

“I work the whole day long, and I can be at home to take a shower only in the morning and in the evening. But I never know if I will have a chance for it,” says resident of Parpetsi Street Andranik Babayan, who sometimes visits relatives to use their shower facilities.

The work of several cafes and cafeterias in the area are affected. Tanya Baboyan, a cook at Top Table, on Tumanyan Street, tells ArmeniaNow that their chief brings about 100 liters water in huge containers daily, because otherwise, “we would not manage to work”.

According to Yerevan Water Company secretary general Mane Mamyan, the businesses and residents can expect interrupted services for at least another month.

Meanwhile, local supermarkets and convenience stores are pleased to report an increase in the sells of bottled water.
