Soldier Invetigation: Doctor arrested in case of conscript chickenpox death

Lieutenant colonel Minas Mkrtchyan, Head of Neurology Department of the Armenian Military Hospital under the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, was arrested on Wednesday as a suspect in the criminal case on conscript Hayk Khachatryan, who died of chickenpox disease. Mkrtchyan is charged with “negligent medical treatment, causing serious damage.”

Khachatryan, 18, resident of Spandaryan village in Shirak province, died on December 30, 2011, in Nork Infection Hospital in Yerevan.

Movses Khachatryan, Hayk’s father, told ArmeniaNow that his family “is not satisfied with this arrest at all, and we will fight so that all those who are responsible for our son’s death get the punishment they deserve.”

The Investigation Service of the Ministry of Defense reports that the preliminary investigation of the criminal case continues.
