The number of swine flu infected people in Armenia is gradually increasing.

A 28 year old male from Yerevan (whose name was not released) and Astghik Zakaryan, 26, of Hrazdan have died as a result of A/H1N1 “Swine Flu” virus. Zakaryan was six months pregnant.

The cause of deaths were officially reported Monday evening, after both died in hospital after being admitted with pneumonia-like symptoms.

“Both the dead consulted a doctor too late,” Shushan Hunanyan, assistant to the Minister of Health, told ArmeniaNow, once again appealing to public “not to rely on self-treatment, and to consult a doctor at the very first symptoms of flu.”

According to official data, as of now, 80 people are infected with Swine Flu in Armenia, and the number increases at a rate of five per day.

Three victims have died, officially, of seasonal flu, but hospitals report that the number is greater in reality.

According to the data of Erebuni Medical Center, during the last two weeks, nine patients died of seasonal flu, two people died at Armenia’ Medical Centre (formerly Republican Hospital), and two – at St. Grigor Lusavorich Hospital.

Arthur Rostomyan, head of Erebuni Medical Center, told ArmeniaNow that death cases of flu and pneumonia were registered in Armenia last year, too, simply this year the attention is much stronger.

“I cannot state concrete figures, however there is not a big difference between the indexes of death cases of current and previous years,” Rostomyan says.

According to the data of the Ministry of Health, 31,467 cases of respiratory diseases were registered in Armenia within the last month, which is twice more as compared with the index of the same period last year.
