In the Russian capital on Wednesday, the Yerevan team lost to Dynamo 94-63 in the second leg of the Euro Cup 1/16 finals. In the first game in Yerevan last week, the Moscovites won 62-57.

Playing in Yerevan against visiting Dynamo Moscow, Hatis (with new head coach Vardan Khachatryan and new recruit Ukrainian basketball player Arina Markotenko, formerly of Dynamo Moscow) lost 62-57.

The administration of the club, which suffered four defeats in as many games in the 2010/2011 Euro Cup (even though qualifying for playoffs on additional showings), said on Saturday it accepted Ghazanchyan’s resignation, thanked him “for the large amount of work” and “wished him well in his further coaching career.”

Тhe poor record (including home-and-away defeats to Israel’s Elitzur Ramla and Russia’s Dynamo-GUVD Novosibirsk) did not prevent the team from placing high among the bottom finishers due to a better difference of hoops scored for and against (270/339).

But the record of four defeats in as many games (including a home defeat to the Israelis as well as home-and-away losses to the other Group F qualifier Dynamo GUVD (Novosibirsk, Russia), may still leave the Armenians in a position to qualify for playoffs.

The home team threatened to send its boisterous fans home happy, when with just 14 seconds left in regulation Hatis had a chance to wrap up victory. But the back-and-forth lead changes settled at 85-85, followed by the Russians’ domination of the extra five minute period.

The Hatis official website said on Monday Ivana Podrug from Croatia and Olympia Scott from the United States had already arrived in Yerevan and were preparing for the team’s next Euro League game later this week.
