Basketball: Former Eagle to Tryout for Armenian National Team
The Dearborn, Mich. native played for the Eagles from 1999-2002 Kachaturoff earned three letters for the Eagles from 1999-2002 after transferring from Hillsdale College prior to the 1998-99 campaign. She finished her collegiate career ranked 36th on EMU’s career scoring chart, while having played 78 games for the Green and White. This marks the first time Armenia has invited players from outside of the country to tryout for the squad. Candidates with Armenian bloodlines are coming from Iran, Lebanon, Russia, Syria and the United States for the tryout. Kachaturoff scored a career high of 25 points against Kent State University in the dramatic 2000 Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals, earning All-Tournament honors. As a senior co-captain, she averaged nine points and three rebounds a game in conference play and was instrumental in the Eagles’ resurgence, including a season-high 19 points in a come-from-behind win over Ball State University and 18 points in the a home win over the University of Toledo. During her time in Ypsilanti, the women’s basketball team recorded four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in school history. Additionally, the Eagles set the then-record for most wins in a four-year period with 62 victories. The Eagles also won nine conference games in back-to-back seasons to tie the then-school record. Prior to coming to EMU, Kachaturoff was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Dearborn High School. She was a three-time All-City, All-League and Team MVP selection, along with being an All-State selection her sophomore season. Kachaturoff averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds a game during her senior season en route to earning first-team Class A All-State honors. In addition to basketball, she was a three-year varsity letterwinner in golf, where she was a three-time Team MVP.
