FC Ulysses need only three points in as many remaining Premier League games this season to win the national title for the first time in their history.
The Yerevan side may accomplish the goal in a weekend match against bottom-of-the-barrel Ararat. This would end a decade of hegemony in national soccer by another Yerevan club, Pyunik.
Pyunik, led by national team head coach Vardan Minasyan, on Monday suffered a painful 0-3 defeat to Banants and now look highly unlikely to contain Ulysses. In fact, Pyunik are now battling it out with Kapan’s Gandzasar for the runner-up’s spot.
