Armenian Premier League 2011 winner FC Ulisses began next year’s Cup tournament with a win against the season’s bottom side Ararat as the competition kicked off at the weekend.
The reigning champions came from a goal down to win 3-1 in the first-leg quarterfinal played at home on Saturday.
Meanwhile, this year’s League runner-up Gandzasar Kapan suffered a 0-1 home defeat to another provincial side Impuls Dilijan.
Pyunik, which earlier this year fell short of the championship title for the first time in a decade, finishing third in the League, drew against Mika at home.
In the other Cup fixture played on Sunday Gyumri’s Shirak beat Banants 2-1.
The second-leg matches of the Cup quarterfinals are due to be played on November 23-24. The tournament will go until late spring, with the winner getting the right to represent Armenia in Europe’s second most prestigious club competition, Europa League.
