After failing to win the domestic league for the first time in a decade, the rejuvenated Pyunik side went on to fall out of next season’s Cup tournament as well.
In the second leg of the 2012 Cup quarterfinal played on Thursday Pyunik lost 3-1 to Mika who progressed to the next stage on aggregate (the first match between the two teams at the weekend ended 0-0).
2011 Armenian Premier League winner FC Ulisses lost to Ararat 2-3 on Wednesday, but qualified for the semifinals due to a 3-1 defeat against the league’s bottom side in the first leg.
The other two sides that will play in the semifinals are Impuls Dilijan (who defeated Gandzasar Kapan twice 1-0) and Gyumri’s Shirak who ousted Banants (2-1, 0-0).
The Cup competition will go until late spring, with the winner getting the right to represent Armenia in Europe’s second most prestigious club competition, Europa League.
