Rather than submit to government demands to install water meters and to change the status of their land (from useless for agricultural purposes (as it is now) to arable), some Armenian fish breeders have put their farms up for sale.
Twenty five of 250 fish-breeding farms in Armenia, which mainly produce trout and sturgeon are on the market. Eight of them, according to Arthur Atoyan, director of the Union of Fish-Breeders, are facing fines, in violation of several laws on environment, as well as on taxes for usage of natural resources and water. The fines range from about $930 to $33,000.

This year the Government of Armenia will promote the export of fish from Armenia according to a statement by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. Fish farmers, however, are skeptical of the claim.

People’s Party leader Tigran Karapetyan, head of a marginal but vibrant following, stated at a rally in Yerevan on Wednesday afternoon that he is giving the Armenian authorities until February 28 to meet his "justice-seeking" movement's demands, or else he will declare a drive for early elections.
“We will begin to struggle for the rights of political prisoners jailed in the wake of the 2008 presidential election, we will demand that pensions and minimum wages be raised, etc,” stated Karapetyan addressing his supporters near ancient manuscripts museum Matenadaran in downtown Yerevan, voicing concerns that, while raising passion, are not unique to the People’s Party platform.
