YEREVAN BIRTHDAY: Festivities on the occasion of the 2,787th anniversary of Yerevan are expected in all the communities of the city on October 8-9.

On October 8, an exhibition "My Yerevan" will open at the Museum of History at 10:30 AM local time. Concerts will take place in all the communities at 12:00 and 7:00 PM. Ceremonial awarding of the winners of "Yerevan in my eyes" photo contest is expected at Moscow Cinema at 2:30 PM. An annual festival "Yerevan in my songs" is expected at 8:00 PM in front of the Cascade complex. A festive concert "Yerevan Day" will be held at A.Spendiaryan National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

On Sunday, at 3:00 PM festive concerts are expected in all the city parks. In the evening, at 7:30, a concert and fireworks are expected in the Republic Square.

WRITERS’ AWARD: Rebecca Curtis, University of Kansas assistant professor of English with Armenian roots who is writing her first novel, has been honored September 22 in New York City as one of six emerging female writers winning a $10000 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers Award.

Curtis, who has published short stories in the New Yorker, Harper’s and McSweeney’s in addition to many literary journals, says the Rona Jaffe award will support her research for a novel based on the true story of a woman’s survival and escape from the Armenian genocide. FIRST ARMENIAN TRANSLATION: An international conference dedicated to the Armenian first translation of the Holy Bible will be opened on 8 October in Holy Echmiadzin. According to the information department of Holy Echmiadzin, many famous scientists from different countries will participate in the conference. The conference will last two days. It coincides with the events of 1600 anniversary of Creation of Letters.

DAYS OF ITALY IN ARMENIA: The exhibition of Italian artists works was organized at the Armenian National Picture Gallery, thus opening the Days of Italy in Armenia. His Holiness Garegin II Catholicos of All Armenians in His welcoming speech noted that friendly relations of Armenian and Italian people have left valuable cultural, scientific and spiritual heritage. "Traditions of these relations are being continued nowadays in opera, spiritual and classic music, architecture, painting, theatrical art and cinema", His Holiness noted.
