Eurovision 2015: Armenia’s Genealogy places 16th in Grand Final

Armenia has finished 16th in Eurovision following Saturday night’s performance by the six-piece band, Genealogy, in the 27-nation grand finale of Europe’s biggest pop music contest in Vienna, Austria.

Sweden’s Mans Zelmerlow with his song “Heroes” scored 365 points to win the contest, with representatives of Russia and Italy placing second and third, respectively.

The contest’s most international act representing five continents and Armenia (Essaï Altounian from Europe, Tamar Kaprelian from America, Stephanie Topalian from Asia, Vahe Tilbian from Africa, Mary-Jean O’Doherty Vasmatzian from Australia, and Inga Arshakyan from Armenia) sang a song in English entitled “Face the Shadow” that scored 34 points in a combined TV viewer and professional jury vote.

Armenia’s highest points, 12, came from Georgia. Russia provided 6 points to Armenia, with Belarus giving a 4. Belgium, France and Macedonia gave Armenia three points each, with the Czech Republic and Greece contributing one point each.

Meanwhile, Armenia gave its highest points to Russia (12), Georgia (10), and Montenegro (8).

Armenia has participated in Eurovision song contests since 2006 (skipping the 2012 show for security reasons as it was hosted by Baku, Azerbaijan). So far Sirusho and Aram Mp3 have provided the best finishes for Armenia by placing fourth in the 2008 and 2014 competitions, respectively. Armenia’s biggest setback was registered in 2011 when its participant Emmy failed to qualify for the final.
