An Armenian soldier was reportedly killed on Wednesday evening at one of the Nagorno Karabakh Defense Army’s military units situated in the northern direction.
According to the Karabakh Defense Ministry, 19-year-old Vahe Yenokyan received a fatal gunshot in “yet unclear circumstances”.
“Investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of the incident”, the Ministry said.
According to the Karabakh military authorities, Azerbaijani forces continued to violate overnight the terms of the verbal ceasefire agreement that followed four days of heavy fighting in the conflict zone in early April. In particular, they say Azeri troops have used firearms and sniper guns of different calibers as well as grenade-launchers in firing at Armenian positions.
“The Defense Army’s vanguard units refrained from retaliating and continued to confidently carry out their combat duty,” the Karabakh Defense Ministry said.
According to the Armenian Defense Ministry, the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was overall calm on the night of May 26 with only “occasional shots”.
“The armed forces of the Republic of Armenia control the border situation and confidently implement the tasks set to them,” the Ministry said.
