The UK’s leading tabloid, The Daily Star, reports that English Premier League side Arsenal are considering signing Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the next season despite competition from rival Chelsea.

It was reported earlier this month that the Gunners have launched a move for the 27-year-old soccer player currently playing for Borussia Dortmund and are willing to pay around £23m (more than $33m) for the Bundesliga sensation.

“Arsenal scouts have been tracking his progress and the club are prepared to meet his £8m-per-season (about $11.5m) contract demands,” the paper writes, adding that Mkhitaryan has enjoyed a “phenomenal season” in Dortmund, scoring 23 goals and creating a further 32 in 49 appearances.

Earlier, German paper Bild claimed Chelsea submitted a £46m (about $66m) for Mkhitaryan last summer and are ready to go back in for him when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
