Turkish Ambassador to Russia: Government policy is about establishing good neighborly relations

Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Russia Halil Akinci said in his interview to Moscow Nezavisimaya Gazeta (Independent Newspaper) newspaper that although the United States and Russia support the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, it is yet too early to speak about Russia’s cooperation projects with the two countries.

The Ambassador stressed that first of all Turkish Meclis (parliament) needs to ratify the Zurich protocols. “In the ratification process a wish will be expressed in the Turkish parliament for Azerbaijan-Armenia relations to be settled. But our parliament does not always obediently do what the government requests. And the government policy is about establishing good relations with our neighbors.”

The newspaper also reports that today (October 29) is a national holiday in Turkey – Turkish Republic Day.
